Template description

A beautiful newsletter synchronized in two parallel: code and image.
How? That simple structure from behind and the typography.. are combined to make a great reading experience, even if the subscribes has images disabled. Also the main navigation makes no use of the traditional buttons and menus.

Last, but not least, the Urban Magazine newsletter is build on a simple and rafined design concept, based on a wireframe – sketched from zero.

The Newsletter does not contain CSS code. The only * style code you will find is writed inside the tables.. and more precisely in the * td sections.

The structure / code

The Fireworks source file is fully layered, labeled and sliced. You can easily find what you need and change it as you wish. Also The HTML source is incredibly easy to customize to your or your client’s specific needs.

The HTML code has been tested for all major mail applications. I’ve tested this extensively and it meets every major standard for email templates out there. The HTML template have been tested on Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Apple Mail, Hotmail and Microsoft Outlook, Thunderbird as well.

To edit the files ( made in Fireworks and DreamWeaver ) please follow the folders and code comments and you will find each section tag. For technical support, please contact me and I will provide all my support.

Creating a layout / customizing the pre-built ones

Creating a new layout is as simple as opening a base file (included in the package) and
stacking different modules ( basically variable width, pre-coded 1, 2 and 3 column tables)
until the desired layout is obtained.

You will find included in the package:

• the base html file
• html file with all the modules
• placeholder images of different sizes to make mock-ups even faster and easier!
• a text document with “Lorem Ipsum” text for faster mock-ups
• 7 generally used layouts already created; useful from anything from newsletters,
  postcards, product presentation etc ( check out the live preview to see them)

Customizing the look and feel of the new layout is simple as well thanks to the commented
embedded css styles.

After modifying the css style you need to make it from embedded to inline to make sure the
html email will look the same in different readers. This is a time consuming task but you
will not need to do these as you will find included a link to a online service that does
that instantly and best of all free!

Also you will find 7 layouts already costumized, in both original embedded css version and
the inline css version. Check out the live preview for examples.

Documentation

The documentation is extensive and takes you step by step through creating / modifying and
customizing different html email layouts. The documentation also has a section with general
tips of what to take into account when building any kind of html email.

The Layout Creation System

The layout creation system was designed with a clear goal in mind: allow people to focus on the most important part of the newsletter – the content – by providing a way to easily create and kind of layout, that works in all major email clients, in minutes…

What the layout creation system is? A collection of code snippets, placeholder images and dummy text that allow you to mock-up any design in minutes in 4 easy steps:

1. Select a Base File (the shell that will hold the modules that will contain the actual newsletter content)
   • save it as a new html file
   • read in documentation how to customize it if needed
2. Add Modules (precoded tables used to create different colomn structures) inside the base file
   • add the modules in the base file starting from the comment <!- START MAIN CONTENT . ADD MODULES BELOW ->
   • add module dividers or
     ’s between the modules to create space
3. Add content in the modules
   • add your actual texts and pictures
   • use the placeholder images in /placeholders and the text from /placeholders/lorem-ipsum.txt for fast mock-up if you don’t have the final text or pictures available
4. Finish
   • copy your html file along with the /images and /placeholders folders to another location
   • host all images on a server and change all paths to absolute paths in the layout file
   • inline the css using the online service provided
   • test and send

To edit the precoded layouts you start from step 2, adding or removing modules and content as needed.

This system is so simple that I gave it to people with no knowledge of html and just follwing the instructions and copy pasting code they where able to create fairly complex layouts in under 15 minutes.
