Email Segmentation in Marketing Emails
by admin

The idea of sending a targeted, relevant email to your subscribed clients on a regular basis is one of the longest standing marketing strategies around. Finding the perfect email design, though, can be difficult. There are many email templates out there, some of which are HTML email templates and some of which are plain text templates. However, no matter which type of template you use, there are some basic structural concepts that the best email templates use. One of these concepts involves segmentation.

What is Email Segmentation?

Email segmentation involves sending marketing emails to specific groups of your clients. For example, you can segment your client list by region, age, interest, and more. You could create specific email marketing templates for those customers who live in your city denoting store specials, then use a different email template design for those customers who only order online. By separating the two groups, you can use email newsletter templates that feature more relevant information. Online customers won’t have to read over any in-store specials you list, while your local customers will receive emails more pertinent to them.

Segmentation Strategies in your Email Templates

But some email newsletter templates don’t take segmentation into account. The best email newsletter templates out there have information about segmenting your emails so that they don’t all look alike or sound the same. First of all, segmented emails should each have their own unique subject lines. In some cases, you may have the same customers in various segmentation lists. If they see the same subject lines several times, they may feel spammed and delete all of your messages.

But there’s more to segmentation HTML email design than just changing the subject lines. You also need to have different email layouts. While you may have the same header image for each email, you should use a different layout or at least different wording in each of your segmented emails. Again, repetition is often seen as spam.
